Why are you thrashing it after 300 miles? No the best idea. I admit I didn't do 1000 miles steady but got to 600 before anything a bit silly and didn't do anything too harsh until 1000

Yes, MPG will go down if you thrash it, I often see 25 or less after a bit of fun D.gif

a lot of members on this site, and certainly the few who have posted in here seriously need to learn how to drive sensibly.... i have had my ST for a week, i get 35mpg-40mpg in town, and regulary achieve high 40's on dual carriageways and motorways, even got 51.7mpg on the way back from uni today.

be more gentle and you will see good returns on your fuel.

it annoys me when people blast past me in the morning on the duals as i'm only a car or two behind them at the traffic light island 2 mins down the road. whats the point, think of the environment!! lol.gif

P.S i reset my trip comp every time i enter a different road type, i.e motorway/dual, b-road, 30/40mph town areas. never ever see below 30mpg unless i'm continually stop-starting or driving like a loon

You're the first person i've come accross on a forum that does this thumbsup.gif. This is the proper way to use the trip computer and the only way to get an accurate figure. The amount of people I see on forums where it's clear people just leave them to get some dodgy average for hundreds of miles of mixed road types astounds me. All they do is moan about how low it is compared to others when in fact their figure means bugger all!

arun- i thought this would be quite obvious as it does say average, lol... now you mention it i can believe it as some peoples mpg figures are shockingly bad.

i've learnt loads of ways of saving petrol, best ways are cruising speeds, between 55 and 65 no higher, change before 3k revs (ideally at 2.5k, not before 2k though) and coasting to a junction or when you know you will have to stop or slow. last one only really effective in towns.

anyone got other ways?

i read somewhere that to get great economy you should drive quickly in order to get to higher gears. as they typically don't drink as much as the lower ones. sounds like poo to me...?
