With the rising costs of motoring, petrol and tax specifically, has anyone considered selling their ST?

If so, what other cars have you been looking at?

I really love my car and the performance but with the rising costs of living and motoring I have been considering changing my car and career (.gif

I've only had my ST since Feb, but at the moment, i'd live in it rather than sell it thumbsup.gif

Obviously, living at home helps P.gif

I can understand why people like yourselves may want to sell up, which is unfortunate really.

I thought about changing recently, but im on a 3 year deal and with the petrol prices atm, im quite happy with my 34mpg to work and back, and 40mpg on a motorway run, + the car is nippy and fun to drive ).gif for the performance you get I dont think the fiesta ST is a bad little car at all.

I considered this, but when you factor in the poor second hand price of the ST that outweighs any gain you get from switching to more economical motor.

im keeping the fiesta until the new one comes out was looking at a focus ST and speaking to Kenny about prices and that which are great now but after working out how much tax and fuel will be next year the focus will cripple me.

so just waiting to order a new fiesta ST as and when it comes out oh and enough for the Mountune upgrade ).gif

In my eyes, the ST is about the most econmical hot hatch you can buy today that's worth owning (even though running costs aren't that cheap), so a step up is out of the question, and a step down is definately out of the question.

I'll work my finances around owning one, rather than changing. Things will never get better with regards to tax and petrol costs, so it's a case of being 'uncomfortably comfortable' if you get what I mean......

I'd love to own a high performance sports car (Evo, GTR-34), I can afford to buy one, just cant afford to run it, but a step down would just take all the enjoyment out of driving completely, and I, for one, love driving my ST.

Seconded (sort of)

I have been giving it a lot of thought lately and if fuel prices continue to rise the way they have been then I'm definitely getting rid.

I've switched jobs fairly recently so now I'm only 5 miles away from work now opposed to the 30 odd I used to be at my last place so it's easily bikeable (the pedal variety) & runable (the shank's pony variety) The only fly in the ointment at the moment is that I have to take my 6 year old son to school each day but he's reaching an age now where he could travel on the back of a scooter with me (I hold a full bike licence) on the school run and I'd just buy a complete shed for the times when I really need a car.

I'd miss the ST and buzz I get from driving it but it's reaching a point now where I'm sick of getting ass raped everytime I pull into the petrol station.

i had the same problem bout 9 months ago. I couldnt afford to run the ST as i was putting £80 of fuel in a week. Every week! I love the MK6 fiesta and didnt want to get rid of the ST so i changed it for the ZS TDCI. It handles great, looks similar to an ST and its got half leather which the majority of ST's have anyway. If rising costs affect what you drive then its time for a change. I paid an extra £1500 for the diesel and saved £750 on insurance straight away. My road tax is £38.50 for the year and i get 65mpg. Over 3 years this is going to save me a fortune. If you cant afford to run it then bite the bullit. You can always get another ST when your curcumstances change.

Sorry for the rant but i just like to let people know that downgrading sometimes isnt all that bad.

everyones putting in good responses here to the rise of petrol, but what the government doesnt bank on if they put the prices up to high people will stop driving, then they will have to bring the price back down again, as in everyone in europe were paying prices well beyond any other country, take aran for instance, there gettin £2.00 a Gallon, USA there gettin about $2 a gallon, why on earth are we so high? well according to recent surveys in the daily record and the sun, were so high in our taxation on petrol because we get free nhs and also other free stuff, but if you take drink for a matter your paying (in my pub) on average £2.10 a pint, if there was an increase in beer they'd be f***ed to, so whats our choices cheaper petrol or cheaper booze?

I agree with what Dale has said here, the Fiesta ST is a very economical car for the performance you get. It's definitely no gas guzzler. It took me stepping up to my current car to realise the extent of how frugal the ST is. If i would step down from the R26, I would go down to something in the same vein as the ST, but not lower than that in performance stakes. I definitely don't think that a diesel is as economical a choice as people think anymore. The price of the fuel is just silly now. You have to do a hell of a lot of mileage to see any returns over a petrol equivalent.

As for the high price faced by the motorist.....Scrap the road fund licence based on CO2 emissions all together, as that doesn't reflect how much the car is used on the roads at all. Get the revenue in by tax on the fuel. That way the motorist is paying for the miles that they use.

I'm lucky as for me the ST is my day off run around and have fun. Don't use it to commute to and from work or for anything else. Just fun. So i'll be keeping mine for the 3 year ford options then possibly take out a loan over a year to clear it so I actually own the ST. Then the only thing I need to worry about after that is petrol, service and MOT. No high monthly payment. So more petrol in the ST and more fun.

I have looked at changing the ST but everything I look at is faster and more expensive, but every time I get in the car I change my mind and want to keep it DDance.gif , it must be something to do with them stripes. Unless my situation changes Gordon Brown isn't gonna tell me what car to drive.
