Hello,

Firstly... My first post so hi to everyone, love the club and certainly love the ST's...

My girlfriend and I are after a new car, I had a Saxo VTR as my first car (chav I know....) and sold it a while back so we could save up for a new car and just drive my girlfriends KA about for a while. Now we have decided it is going to be an ST (after choosing between that, a Cliosport, which we chose were too French and unreliable... or a Civic Type-R which with me being 19 put it up the price scale due to insurance lol)...

We today found the nearest ST to ourselves to drive and it is an 07 plate Silver ST with 34,000 miles.. Neither of us were keen on silver but saw it and loved it! Electric mirrors, full leather and lots of extras! However..... It pulled to the right... ALOT! which the salesman put down the the 'camber' in the road lol I am not that stupid I'm afraid and as my girlfriend was driving I could hear a slight squeek from the rear of the car (I don't know loads about cars but it sounded like the suspension!)...

Can anyone give us any advice on whether or not these sound common problems? or whether we should just phone him and say we are not interested... ANY help would be grately appreciated!

Cheers in advance guys and girls Posted Image

Hi, and welcome to the club!

Firstly, I've owned my ST for a matter of maybe a month, and compared to my old car (MK4 Golf) it does feel like the car wants to drive itself! I believe I read somewhere that they tyres on ST's can make a huge difference, and that the standard ones can really pull you about especially when there are lorry tram lines! I've noticed it a fair bit myself, but its also not ALL the time.

I'd suggest another road test, or possibly driving another car. If all else fails, hire a mechanic to have a good look around it. £40 quid isn't a lot of money for peace of mind!

Is this car from a private seller? Ask him if he would mind getting an inspection that you will happily pay for upon complete passing.

Have you tried giving Ford a ring? See if they have any in stock and go for a drive!

Hope this helps, and hope you get an ST even if it isn't this one!

Take it easy, Jay.

Firstly hello and welcome to the club Tom & Jenna :)

I wouldnt say pulling to the right was a characteristic at all. If anything the ST was noted for pulling to the left. That might be something as simple as the tracking but you'd think a seller would get things like that checked out & looked at before trying to sell it.

The squeaking from the back is a very common problem and can be a number of things with relatively easy fixes (if they are indeed the problems of course!). Number one is the handbrake cable rubs on the body and makes a squeaking nosie from the rear. I think most people use a bit of WD40 and the squeak goes away. Other things might be the rear seat catches rattle and putting a little foam in to pad it out helps. Sometiems people report the rear light clusters can rub against the body of the car so have a good close look at them for any signs of rubbing/damage etc I'm not sure what the fix for that is though

the standard p-zero tyres are bad for deciding witch way the car will go, i wouldent have dared take my hands off the wheel with them but now i have some yokohama pradas its a much more confident drive, wow only 1 sqweek? my st is an 08 and has hundreds lol, you will learn to love them its the cars caracter

Cheers for the replies :) I had read a few people talking about the character and the little noises... I just thought to myself, how could I even moan about 1 squeek when I had a Saxo... It was a bag of spanners!!!

Unfortunately, I tried Ford and not one garage within 50 Miles of me has got an ST! But this is a Dealer, one with a very good reputation I might add! Very rare that they have a car more than 3 years old, this car turns 3 next month... I will be getting any car checked over before I buy! Been hunting online and not happy with what the bloke offered us trade in and also he has got it at a higher price than places like Whatcar suggest so I doubt this one will end up being ours.. He seems a stubborn git!

Cheers for the help anyway :) Will definately be getting an ST, the drive today made our minds up for sure... I test drove one about 18 months ago and forgot how good they are to drive!! So now its finding one we want, putting the money together and joining the elite 'Owner Members' club :) (oh and then the small matter of Eibach springs, K&N 57i, Miltek 4-2-1 and full system and Pro Race 1.2s)

:)

hi guys again i can say the standard tyres are poo for pulling you all over the road..i have pradas on now and its ten time better..plus the car's grip is far far better now.

Have a look in the for sale section, you may find a car there that fits exactly what you want.

hope you find one soon, you will love the car..they are very good.

Cheers for all your help guys... We have been speaking about it loads and I think we are going to really hunt for a Red or White ST... Blue stands a chance too lol!

We are looking at mid June as it is Jenna's birthday so would make it appropriate :)

I do have another question though... Do the Focus Wing Mirrors fit the ST.. the ones with indicators? I was sure I had seen them on here and loved them but cannot find any pictures and have even tried the search... Any help much appreciated :)

Hi and welcome :)

From my experience with mine the tyres do make a hell of a lot of difference to the grip/pulling, the pzeros on it standard are horrendious in wet, But when i had my toyo t4's on there it stuck to the road like glue and the handing was amazing, i now have very cheap budget tyres on there for the time being and its even worse than the pzeros, hardly any grip, pulls like a :censored: and if thers rain i might aswell glide down the road hehe! Honestly tho, get a decent set of tyres on it when you get it and it is a truelly amazing car :)

They do indeed and CH53DYS did this to his old ZS and can tell you exactly what you'll need.

Well bare in mind it is for me and my Girlfriend who is 23 with 4 years no claims but with both of us on the policy the cheapest we have found is £890.00 Fully Comp with a total £750 excess with Admiral. Both earning own no claims.

Most quotes are about £900-£1,000! I am hoping when we get the car and are getting insurance that Chris Knott may be able to help? but I am not sure if they can as I am 19.... Would be a named driver if I had to be to make it cheaper!

You driven any ST's yet? I loved the two I have driven and cannot wait to get one!! Good Luck!!!

Hello again guys...

Whilst driving past our local Ford dealer on Sunday, where we hadn't seen an ST in about a year... There was a nice White ST with Blue side stripes... WOW! We went straight in and it had arrived on the Saturday and wasn't forecourt prepared. Anyway.. We thrashed out abit of a deal which we are negotiating with currently and tomorrow, look set to go and seal the deal!!!! :) All we need is a few little bits from them and we are happy!

Its an 06 plate with just under 34,000 on the clock, one owner from new, she was local and bought it from the same garage 4 years ago, its got slight scuff marks on the alloys but only the centre caps :s a few small bits need attention by the door handles but apart from that it seems mint! Half Leather with Blue dash and blue on the seats, the silver handles and centre console (which won't be there long..) and privacy glass!

We are very excited but its not yet a done deal, so for now its a probably, but watch this space! :)
