I would have posted this in the technical section but i dont have a membership yet becuase I dont have an ST. If I get one I will subscribe but I just dont see the point at the moment.

Anyways, just wondering if any of you run a nitrous kit. If I got the car I would install a single fogger wet kit probably on a 35jet, possibly a 50 if the engine could safely take it without risk of bending a rod or shattering a ring...
I wouldnt really want to run a direct port kit because it is more obvious to see what it is under the bonnet and requires more fine tuning etc...

Im only really interested in the nitrous route becuase I dont have the time to fabricate and install a turbo conversion and build it low comp and i dont want to go the supercharger route either as the only blown cars i like driving are american V8s with a dirty great roots style...

If any of you have actually run nitrous I would like to hear from you, but I dont really need opinions (dont mean to sound like an ar$ehole but weather or not I buy the car kind of depends on this)

Thanks a lot lads
Nick

didnt ask for sarcasm, just wanted some advice to decide if i want to build one of these... i'd rather know the score about the strength of these engines under that sort of load rather than installing it and finding out it goes bang the hard way.

im not just some silly dreamer, i have a vast amount of automotive engineering knowledge, but im not going to get into an argument...

this is the downside to forums.

Dont be like that!

There was one guy, called smeigh i believe, who went on about NOS alot, might be worth a search for him.

nice one, cheers mate
had a little browse but i couldnt really find anything as 'in depth' as i needed, did help though, at least it has been done before and didnt just go bang on the first use of the spray.

Smeigh had a high comp 2.3 engine. Similar spec to Gaz's old engine from memory.

I don't think there has been anyone in the UK so far whos done it on a stock bottom end. I have thought a few times about it but my mechanical knowledge goes to ringing a mate up to do stuff for me and making coffee and bacon barms whilst they do the work

Go for it mate

You would be better off asking on passionford.com, you'll have to
ignore the fools though, they'll be quite obvious!

i wouldnt say yes it can take it BUT...theres a few people like myself running over 300bhp with a standard bottom end but it supercharger power nos will be different power delivery...

i would think it would take a far bit though, have you tried asking jamsport?

they know there stuff..jamie would be able to tell you

I'm sure the only way on St is direct port and with a progressive controller as all the sensors are on the inlet plenum and are not on the air intake hose like so many other cars. You would have to speak to a pro to find out for sure but it's a costly route to go to use with the duratec engine/ fiesta St.

One of the dealerships over here offer a Nos upgrade, even mainatins your warranty. It's only a 40 or 50 hp wet shot though, and is progressive. Stock internals, I wouldnt do it though.

yea i wouldnt be wanting to run anywhere near 300bhp... 220-245ish as an absolute maximum. i would be changing the exhaust for a larger bore stainless system, decat, maybe a manifold depending on what the standard on performs like, decent intake system and possibly cams? and then obviously the nitrous if it can be done. dont really want to get too involved with enginework on it, haha

and i didnt realize the sensors were in the inlet manifold. but if they are, surely there isnt a MAF sensor on each branch of the inlet manifold (correct me if im wrong becuase i dont know the location of it) but even if they are mounted closer to the engine, would it still not recognize it and tell the injectors to compensate for the nitrous being injected?

oh right, well at least some people must be running it then? and as much as progressive nitrous is a good system, i personally dont like it, i would just run it as a standard system without one. just being more careful... it wouldnt be on the throttle contol system either, thats another little gadget that i dont like, lol.

maybe it would be an idea to run it through a dual system with independant twin jets but both on say a 25hp jet and then they could be seperately introduced at the correct times through the rev range?

for 220-240 bhp you should just get a stage 1 supercharge kit easy easy power although expensive, or have just got a thing for nos lol

i have condidered the supercharger option but its a consant boost which i wouldnt really want, thats why i would go turbo (big turbo rather than small on high pressure to retain drivability at low RPM for a more usable off-boost powerband before the boost comes in) and thats only if i had to run forced induction on a 4cylinder FWD car. with V8s i dont mind superchargers but not centrifugal unless its a twin setup for biggggg power. more a fan of eatons roots type charger.
but to be honest i really dont want to go the forced induction method simply becuase its harder to put back to stock when i want to get rid of the car...

and i am a bit of a nitrous lover ever since driving a golf running it, haha
the instant power surge is unbeliveable, i would definately recommend driving a car running it (even a small power setup)
