Turns out it was very small stones and other road debris stuck in the bottom of the V-belt grooves.

The chirp came back. I'm just getting a new belt.

New belt sorted mine when it was noisy. I did the idler and tensioner too, in hindsight should'vehad a new water pump too as its overdue
