A friends neighbour has an Escort Cosworth sitting on his drive, the car has not moved for over 5 years and never covered up, i spoke to the owner and said if he wants to sell it and he said £27,000 but it needs loads of work to it, engine rebuild, all break lines and breaks. Interior needs a proper clean as it's damp and mouldy.

I then said would you take £15,000 cash now as it needs a lot of work and he said no, i then said £20,000 is my max offer cash now which he declined as i i went ok not to worry then. I get a call from the owner saying he will take £25,000 but i said £20,000 and no more, so waiting to see if he calls back.

Was i right in not going higher than my £20,000.

Depends how much you want the car, I’d stay low because there could be all sorts wrong with it if it’s not moved in 5 years. Try and price up what it would cost to sort it out, then see if any others are about in your total budget.

I would suggest you get a specialist to look at the car as if it's been standing for 5 years who knows what's wrong with it.

Also that gives you a good basis for negotiation because you can then both prove to the seller your serious and have cold hard facts to use.

Real shame though it's just been sitting there good luck with getting it.
