The 1.6 engineers in the ST is just the standard Zetec engine with a turbo bolted on anyway so it is quite old. The 1.5 is a completley new engine.
As far as I understand it the engine is based on the sigma but it is significantly altered on the top half, there will be details changes in the bottom end too, like different piston crown shape to suit the direct injection, thicker ringlands etc. It's definitely not a strap on a turbo job and hope for the best .

The 1.5 is just a slight down size, can't find the information out there to see if Ford changed the bore or stroke to reduce it, I suspect maybe a smaller liner rather than shorter rods or crankshaft.

Ford currently do just make an engine for the ST...it's in it. Why does size matter?

The Mk6 ST is a 2 litre...but the 1.6T in the Mk7 is stronger (in standard production guise).
The current 1.6 engine in the Fiesta ST also goes in the Focus, Kuga, Mondeo, SMax & Galaxy - so in no way do Ford currently make an engine 'just' for the ST!

It's not in the same guise though is it, it comes in a variety of calibrations and power outputs.

Hence me saying about size not really being that much of an issue when it comes to power.

We have a 998cc 3cyl Fiesta that would put the "CC's matter" theory to bed ;) All engines are going to get smaller as technology advances, just cos its small doesn't mean its rubbish.

I am small and I don't think I am rubbish.
