Big Brake Kit recommendations?
Hi guys, I’m new here, and to the world of car modifications so bear with me. I’m looking to install a big brake kit on my 16’ plate MK7 Fiesta ST sometime in the near future and I’m wondering which specific kits you guys might recommmed. I’m from the UK as well if that matters as, having looked round it seems like different kits are available in different markets. That said I’m pretty sure this is a British forum. I’ve got my eye on the EBC balanced kit which offers much bigger 4 pot calipers on the front along with bigger, floating discs, braided hoses for the front and rear and a set of upgraded pads at the rear. Puma Speed seem to offer something similar as well and there are a few other manufacturers as well. I’ve looked around for Brembo and Mountune setups as well and can’t seem to find them anywhere despite the fact that in the past there seems to have been a big brake kit offering from both of these companies. However, there’s no big brake kit option available for the MK7 on Mountune’s website nor are they available elsewhere on the internet, same with Brembo, although it seems some people have taken to buying Brembo calipers from a model of Renault Clio and swapping them over to the ST.
So I have a few questions. Firstly, which brand or particular kit would you recommend? Secondly, why is it that the Mountune and Brembo setups seem to have disappeared from the market? Lastly, I’d prefer to upgrade the rears as well and it seems that some kits just give you braided hoses and uprated pads for the rear whilst others gives you bigger discs as well and new carriers for the caliper to accommodate the larger discs, which is actually worth it?
For reference I’m just running stock wheels at the moment but I’ll likely purchase some aftermarket alloys and fit 20mm spacers and a lowering kit as well before I was to fit a big brake kit, I’m aware that a lot of big brake kits won’t fit behind some wheels without spacers. Last thing, if anyone can help out as to whether you would need to fit longer wheel studs in order to accommodate 20mm spacers, seems like a grey are with some people just fitting spacers and others putting longer studs in for safe measure.
I appreciate there’s a lot to digest here but if anyone could help out it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
