So Ive got a bit of an intermittent knock (the worst kind). Cars fine for going over speedbumps or going up the dropped kerb at my house. But if you go along a rough road (which is 90% of the roads in the UK!) You somtimes hear a sharp knock. Sounds like both sides are doing it. Just with potholes really or really rough bits on the road

Whats the biggest culprit for this or best things to check first ? Are droplinks bad on these? I've only had the car a few weeks. It's done about 30k rear seems fine just the front.

Cheers

I dont know how much different the standard mk7 suspension is the to the ST, assuming not a lot, it is extremely common for the lower arm ball joints to develop play, causing knocking.
The lower steering column can also knock and cause noises.

My moneys on a ball joint.
My passenger one was gone and it sounded similar; Fine on most roads, except the short cobblestone section outside my job where it sounded like something was hanging off the car.
Should be handy enough to spot if there's a bit of play in it.

Exhaust is stock and seems OK. Won't knock if you give it a good shake.

Jacked the car up today and checked the passenger side track rod end and it seemed solid enough. Will probably just get them swapped over anyway as they look original. Maybe change the drop links as well as it can't hurt.

Are the aftermarket parts from ecp and the like similar quality to oem? Don't mind buying ford parts if they are superior however they are double the price... (50 quid for one drop link!)

Generally you get what you pay for with suspension parts, if using ECP i would only use Meyle HD but i have no idea if they make any parts for ford as they usually specialise in Audi,BMW parts
That's normally how I look at things to be honest. Not grudging the oem track rod ends really.. but 50 quid per drop link seems mad. Especially for a fiesta lol

I have a similar noise I think. Somewhere up front I think. Changing drop links and exhaust hangers to try to cure.
Best way to describe the knocks I'm getting is it definitely sounds like it's coming from front left or front right shock area... its doesn't do it over speedbumps. Only if one side hits a pothole or a really rough bit in the road. It's fine most of the time to be honest.

I think my first ever post on here was asking about the occasional "thud" especially from front n/s when going over potholes, it used to do it every now and again on the stock springs but upgrading to Eibach Pro-Kit Springs helped, that was nearly 8 years ago, I still get the occasional thud (sounds like the spring is bottoming out) but it's a trait of the car, obviously a more of a knock or creaking sound which gets progressively worse is something else but the occasional thud when going over those unavoidable potholes might just be normal.
