There must be something that can be done to this car to make it sound a lot less soulless, i swear it just sounds like one long drone noise from 1000 rpm to the redline. It sounds so so dull, i know its a turbo 4 cylinder and they never sound amazing, but is there nothing that can be changed to make it sound better, more raspy maybe?

I currently have a mountune exhaust.

How long you had the MT Exhaust on for? it does get better the longer its on.

Get someone to drive past you, it does sound better outside than inside too, but i also have a sports cat too

is there another car you are comparing the sound to?
It sounds good from the outside when manouvering on the driveway, ive had it on for a while now, got at least 10k on it.

When most people refer to an exhaust as resonated or non-resonated they mean the resonator in the middle of the car right after the cat, which the Mountune doesn't have.
I think @Stdriver65 is thinking more that the back box is suppressing the sound as that is a resonated back box. However not deleting the symposer definitely makes in cabin noise drone.

Have you tried removing the Symposer? that may help reduce drone, otherwise its new exhaust time, and if that's the case i do advise going listening to one for real before buying. That would be my suggestion anyway.

Something i grabbed off Miltek's website

Question:

What is a resonator and what's the difference between a resonated and non-resonated exhaust system?

Answer:

A resonator is a chamber in the exhaust system that contains a specific volume of air which is designed to cancel out certain frequencies of sound (made by the engine) - making the exhaust noise quieter.

Therefore, a non-resonated exhaust system will give you extra performance and a louder exhaust note and the resonated system will give you extra performance without increasing the exhaust noise much.

Yeh i have tried popping the hose off but tbh it sounded even worse as once the wind speed takes over you can barely hear the exhaust.

I definately think it could do with a louder exhaust but i dont really have the time going around the country listening to exhausts which is a shame, is the mongoose louder than the mountune by much do you happen to know??

Its definitely different. To me it did sounded louder, but also nicer too. Even peaked my lads interest when it was being revved. but its all personal preference and for sure i would go to some meets or shows and ask about what people have.

Be sure to make sure you check if they have a sports cat or decat (even though its not road legal people do drive with them, and it will certainly make more noise as decat)

The map its running will also make a difference to i would say.

I do like my mountune sound, just the mongoose did sound nicer to me.

however as the last two guys posted MK6 sounds awesome. You'll hear my MK6 before my MK7 :mf_dribble:

Exactly.

Mountune cat back.

Features:

High-flow cat-back exhaust design improves performance
Engineered Helmholtz resonator for a less intrusive, performance sound

Stop saying its not resonated people.
Like KevC mentions above, when talking aftermarket exhausts what differentiates res and non res is the middle silencer/resonator.

Resonated:

Non-Resonated:

Go look at Milltek, Cobra, Scorpion adverts, Mountunes blurb is a little misleading.

I've a Mongoose cat back with Scorpion sports cat. For what it is (engine) makes a, very characterful sound. Occasional pops, burbles on overrun and changes sound depending on revs.
Did you add them both at the same time or did you add one or the other afterwards, if so what was the difference. I was tempted to go sports cat on my mountune cat but concerned it wont do anything to the noise.

The symposer drones awfully, just rip the thing out :lmao: I have Mountune cat and back (as well as the whole MR320 kit) done a fair few thousand miles now so it's nicely worn in, sounds really good to me. You have to open the windows in a tunnel or other walled area to make the most of the sound though!

wow when was the MR320 released? joking aside I have still got my symposer - one of the few that actually likes the thing

Yeh tunnels are about the only place it sounds good, maybe its a volume issue.

I've had the Mountune catback about a month and 1000 miles and it's sounding good to me, I wouldn't want anything louder as it'd be getting into exploding clown boy racer car territory. Well, that's an exaggeration, but it is loud enough and does purr nicely. I also have Mountune intake plus induction hose and MP215. I am another Neil who likes the symposer; can't see what people have got against it, in stock format or at 'stage 1'. It works by design at these levels. For me, it adds something to what is produced by the exhaust sound. I'm not convinced that all the booming is symposer-related. There was a little bit of that before I got the exhaust - which I liked - and it has increased a lot since having the exhaust fitted.- but I still like it. Altogether, the car sounds raunchy enough for me to be going on with. In the right acoustic area, the windows always go down and the exhaust noise plus intake hiss is great. It is my only car, and a daily driver, so that probably makes a difference. Just my opinion of course.
