So, some of you may know that I’m a huge fan of Mountune 😅 and I’ve always sworn by their products, hence why my 3 ST’s have pretty much everything Mountune on them.
I’ve being buying and using their products for around 15 years now and back in 2015 when my MK7 was a year old I decided to purchase the newly announced MR230 upgrade after having the MP215 on my car since new. Yes, it was expensive, but I’ve come to accept that you pay a premium for their products because of the quality and their years of knowledge working with Ford.
I was and still am extremely happy with the MR230 upgrade and never really felt the need to go any further (power wise) with my MK7 as I loved the way it’s always performed.
At the end of last year Mountune announced their M225/M235 package via the SMARTflash system and being that I’m part of this ecosystem with my two MK8 ST’s I was somewhat intrigued to see what this M235 High Torque map could potentially offer over the MR230 that I’ve had on my car for the last 9 years. Yes, it’s ONLY a 5 BHP increase in power on paper, but the increased torque is what I was really fussed about.
So, after a bit of thought over the last few months I decided to take the plunge this week with the Valentines Day Mountune discount code and purchase the maps, complete with another Mountune badge and a funky dongle to upload the new M235 file to the car.
It arrived on Friday and after a bit of messing about in the car with downloading the new app and sending my cars details back to Mountune via the app, the new files arrived about an hour later which meant I was able to upload and see what this had done for my car over the weekend.
Yesterday I took it out for a blast for a few hours and went through the gears doing various pulls in various gears (all within the speed limit of course) and although I felt a slight difference, I wasn’t massively impressed and was even slightly disappointed when I got back home. This package cost me £500 which yes is a lot of money for what it is especially when I already have the MR230 on my car but I did somewhat take the risk and wasn’t really sure what I was going to expect, but I was feeling quite underwhelmed by the time I got back home and parked the car up. 😏
Anyway, today I decided to take the car out for another spin for a few hours just to confirm my disappointment and bizarrely the car now feels massively different? I couldn’t believe the difference in the midrange and how much nicer and quicker the extra torque now makes the car go. I was wondering if it was the placebo effect, but it absolutely isn’t because the extra power is much more noticeable and I couldn’t get enough of it! 😁
So, just to conclude and if anyone was wanting/considering doing what I’ve done (madness I know because of the money I’ve spent) even if you’ve only got the MP215 package, do it, because it’s an awesome upgrade and now I couldn’t be happier with it even though I was already happy with MR230. 😊
