Currently i rinse my dirty car with jet wash first for ages til pretty much everythings off, then i snowfoam, im thinking though, could this potentially push dirt across the paintwork and cause marring? Whereas if i snow foamed first all the dirt will have softened up?

Which way do you do it?

Most foams do state to pre-spray the car before using snow foam to get the loose stuff off; which then allows the foam to penetrate the more stubborn stuff.

I mix and match which way I do it depending on how I feel haha :mf_dribble:

I used to jet wash my car first but I don't now with my new one. If I haven't washed the car in a couple of weeks, being pure lazy, then I get some citrus degreaser then snow foam over the top.
My paint work has some slight marks here and there but nothing like my other ST had when jet washing it first.

Does anyone think snowfoaming first might reduce the chance of scratches as its softening everything on the paint and most of the dirt will slowly drop off as opposed to being blasted across the paintwork?
Yes, that's what it's designed to do.

It will reduce scratches in that it will remove surface dirt that you would drag over paint with your wash mitt etc.

Yep 100% that is why I choose to snowfoam first let it dwell on the car and loosen the dirt and contaminants on the paint surface. Then just jet it all off with ease. Also the majority of professional detailers snowfoam first (I thought almost all do)

Yes im aware of that i wasent doubting it doesent soften, im saying is it more likely to prevent scratches from jet washing as your hopefully blasting 'softer crud' across the paint post snow foam than if you were to jet blast the car straight away

Blasting dirt across the paint isnt really an issue. It's all about getting rid of the dirt before you use your mitt. So using the snow foam before you jet wash will mean you'll remove more dirt.

I think anyway a jet washer by its action would remove the dirt not drag it along the paintwork!!! If you fire anything at an object whether solid or liquid the reaction will be at an equal and opposite angle (like a ball hitting a cushion on a pool table) for the dirt to drag along the surface would disobey the basic laws of physics.....

I gave away a load of snow foam some months ago as it was an absolute nightmare to get off our driveway.

I suspect that was the fact that it's block paved; sometimes wish I had just had it tarmaced with block paving edges.

However Janet wanted it block paved so......I had it done. Happy wife, happy life!

In this weather I snow foam, rinse with the jet wash, then re-fill the foam gun with a capful of shampoo and foam the car again with shampoo and leave the foam on while washing as usual. Just to reduce the chance of scratches and give that bit of extra lubrication when the car is covered in muck.
'that bit of extra lubrication'
