Turtle wax ceramic spray coating ... don’t bother

In light of the glowing reviews of the new turtle wax ceramic product range I decided to give the ceramic spray coating a go.

Cleaned the car, towelled dry , applied spray coat with micro fibre , waiting ten minutes to flash off and then tried to remove it .

The stuff is a pain in the ass. It looks to get into the paint and leave a greasy looking residue that takes and age to remove with a micro fibre . On a black car this is amplified somewhat but its a blinking menace to remove !!

Back to the Meguiars paste wax I go.

It might be better on lighter cars but on black I wouldnt bother

Just applied some Surreal Sio2 ceramic infused wax on my car yesterday. It was recommended by the Detailing World website and there are a couple of Youtube videos.

Went on very easily, cured for 15 to 20 minutes and came off really easily. My phone is in for repair so no pics but I was very pleased with the shine/beading.

Previously used Dodojuice Purple Haze which was also really good but I think this edges it for ease of use.

They both smell brilliant as well :nice:

Ive tried it twice grandad pike, same result each time. Its possible I have a dodgy bottle or its reacting with my previous wax .

Something definitely not right with my stuff, Ill try it on another car if poss to rule out any clash with previous products Ive used

On reapplying my ultimate paste wax the finish was back to its deep glossy self again .

I didnt do anything special. Car was washed and dried, previously waxed with Stay Glassy. Sprayed onto 1 panel at a time very sparingly spread with micro fibre then polished with a clean one. The only thing I can say, on previous cars I've had one make of polish worked better than on another. I'm no professional so I dont know why.
Perhaps I was lucky.

Watched a video on this stuff and the guy was impressed but he did say it flashes very quickly and you don't need much on each panel, plus prep work was important.

Wonder if you applied a bit too much product and left it to dwell too long? also this cold weather doesn't help.

Maybe on a warmer day, less product and buff off straightaway might get better results.

Hi Darran

First time i sprayed onto a Microfibre sparingly then onto the panel, the next time sprayed onto the panel direct. Both yielded the same results for me. Second time was quite a pleasant day with some sun.

Next time ill prep the panel first with quick detailer to try and help strip any old wax and try again . Its a reall odd un as all the videos do state that its an easy on/off product although i did see someone struggle a little in one video but i cant remember who it was.

Its one of those things that if you were here with me you would say ' blimey look at that, that aint right' . Its pretty simple stuff after all and you cant go far wrong with it. A quick wax over with meguiars ultimate wax sorts the panel right out again and comes off super easy so i really dont know whats going on with my bottle of Turtle wax to create the smearing.

I only mentioned as one of the other “coatings” on one of the utube videos when he used a pressure washer half the finish was destroyed... then he did it with a light spray and it was perfect finish... they sometimes appear to be sensitive to water especially with a bit of effort applied to it.

Tried it all sorts of ways on my black ST , buffing off immediately, allowing to flash of for 5 , 10 mins, in the cold, in warmer weather, out of direct sun .

The result was the same every time with regards to the streaking, smearing. The grey VW I used it on today still streaked but hid it much better due to the colour.

Ill try it one more time on my black ST with a damp micro fibre and if its still hard to remove Ill give the product to a family member for use on a lighter car

@maxxoutput one last thought, could it possibly be some partial remnants of old glazes/waxes/ceramics that it is partially adhering to causing this streaking? could it be the car needs to be fully decontaminated and all coating either stripped off or reapplied evenly to ensure even coverage of this product.... You don't have a spare bit of painted panel lying around do you to test it on?

Been shaking it like a Polaroid picture lol.

I might try and strip a panel with some APC and a panel wipe and try again if I get chance just in case its a reaction to old product.
I'll be doing my daughters black Skoda R Design this week will let you know how I get on with her car.
Did my white MK6 at the weekend, no issues. I feel your pain, so annoying. I wonder if you have a duff bottle ? I'm no expert, just washed, polished, waxed then did one panel at a time.

Cheers Grandad Pike

Please keep me updated, thats the thing , its a relatively simple task to use this product, its designed to be simple so i dont think i can get it that wrong. I suppose its possible that i have a duff bottle , maybe to much silicone as the dark streaks definitely look like ones that would match say silicone grease for instance.

A colleague had a similar experience with Meguiars ceramic wax on his black 56 Plate VW Polo, ended up looking like it was covered in water marks and streaks. Could just be limitations of the product on a black car being shown up.

Though in fairness, the car was his daily, and this was the first time it hadn't received a Polish Hand Job (though he does own 4 other classic VAGs which he does care for). As I understand it he simply washed it and applied the wax without polishing or decontaminating first, but like most off the (Halfords) shelf waxes it was 'suggested' it could be applied as is.
