Before the mk8 was released there was a thread debating the weight increase, it was put on hold until the mk8 was released.

Now that people have got their hands on them has anyone weighed their cars? Would be interesting to see how much fat mk8 has gained over the mk7 irl.

I was just wanted to cover all the bases when mentioning the 5 door variant before you jump all over the video, if was irrelevant Car Wow wouldn't have wasted the time recording the video would they? They clearly thought people would want to see the difference when buying a new car. I get you like your MK7 ST I liked mine even when went up to a RS I still missed MK7 and wished I could have had both, but the MK8 is clearly better car in every area that is progression, stop been so green eyed we all on here because we all like our ford hot-hatches I would still daily an XR2 and that isn't anywhere the performance of a modern hot hatch doesn't mean it any less of an icon both the MK7 and MK8 ST will go down as modern classics, we are living it a golden era at the moment before everything becomes all electric  :st:
Had 3 XR2s in my younger days and absolutely loved them, one of the best cars of its type IMO,so get you there, but I have some performance LED bulbs in my garage but it means :censored: all, its just a word, I think its a cracking little car, but performance car, nah not really, its just a hotter version of what our Grandparents go shopping in.

3 door

You ain't going to notice a 100KG unless its strapped to your back. It's virtually impossible to compare with the seat of the pants feel, too many factors come into play, gearing, the way the engine produces power and torque, noise, where and the weight is distributed, etc etc. that's even before you factor in a multitude of factors like temp, road surface, tyres, and for ever on.

Even stop watch times are very difficult to make comparisons due to variables, unless of course they are so far apart to be obvious, but the basic performance of these 2 models is so close it will not be noticeable.

Anyway the way the tailgate performs, I reckon Ford have stuck half the extra weight in that
On the road you wouldn't sure. But on track, 100%.

I felt the difference clearly in my Cayman S at Bedford with and without a passenger between sessions, and that had 320hp. My passenger was no more than 75kg and I'm far from a professional driver. On full acceleration coming out of corners especially but also under braking.

If I had a rugby player sat in the passenger seat of a mk7 fiesta st with over 100hp less and smaller brakes, and I couldn't feel it, then I would be very worried about my driving.

That said, the mk8 has more torque and a lot better tyres, but there's no replacement lightness, my 2 cents.

The last figures I have from downloaded brochures/price lists have the following kerbweights:

Mk 8 3 door 1262kg

Mk 8 5 door 1283kg

Mk 8.5 3 door 1267kg (5 door not quoted for some reason)

(Ford figures include a driver at 75kg, full fluids and 90% fuel load.)

Magazine road tests often put cars on the scales to compare the actual weight with manufacturers claims but I haven't found one yet that does that for the Mk 8/8.5. (While searching I did come across one for the original Mk 1 XR2 which was about 840kg!)
