What's your mode?

Since I got my 8.5 in early March, I've driven mostly in Sport mode. I'm kinda lazy, and it meant only 4 button presses on start up (Start, Sport, yes I'm OK with the seat belt sitch, but also I'd like auto start/stop BACK ON please, to offset at least some of my guilt about it all).

I'd almost got to 600 miles, which I think is sensible "running in" territory, and then I tried "Race", and I find it addictive. Why wouldn't I want 10/10ths, and all the noise, all the time? And the "Knight Rider" light show across the top of the digital dash? I've only seen a minor drop in mpg. I know it turns off all the ESC stuff, but I bought a hot hatch. I didn't hire a nanny.

So what mode do you drive in, mostly? Genuinely interested to know, and it seems I can do a poll. So let's see.

My thinking on the drive modes so far is:
Eco - Why is that even there? I didn't buy a lawnmower.
Normal - No. That just won't do either.
Sport - There's a button for it. I was pressing it.
Race - Pop, pop, bang!

OMG, If your driving an ST in eco mode, sorry but you have bought the wrong car !!
What's the point of driving in sport when you're cruising at 70 on a motorway?
I didn't buy the ST for economy, not by a long shot.... but it's nice to see the mpg creep up on long motorway runs.

I have the same opinion of "Normal" mode to be fair 😆😆

If I wanted "normal" I'd have bought a Focus 🤣

Slow moving, stop start traffic or motorway cruising at 70 - you're not going to go any faster in normal/sport/race mode - so why not?

Ah yes, because we're all supposed to drive like we're on a track every second of every drive on public roads. Got to speed to that next set of traffic lights!

Horses for courses innit, more horses for progress, less horses for slowgress.

If there's a need for sport/track modes then there'll be occasions there's a use for an eco mode too.

The mk8 actually does have an eco mode button, its marked 'stop/start', press it at standstill and the mpg is 0.00 🤘🏻

How else will people know you have an ST if you're not driving it like the stig everywhere.

You can easily get 50mpg with this car - I think that's awesome considering the performance.
After a week and half of owning the MK8.5 I've been using a mix of Normal and Sport.

The reduced response of Normal is quite handy in villages where you could easily slip above 30 and then it's only a button press and you're back into Sport.

I must admit, I don't find Sport much louder than Normal and I can only seem to hear the pops with music off and the windows down??

I wonder if individual cars vary? Very noticeable on mine, windows up or down.

There is a noticeable change in engine note for me with sport even with music on at a reasonable volume but it's nothing extreme. I can hear the pops well and gear changes at around 5000 rpm it really gives a good crackle.

Rear windows cracked a little on the way home on the b roads is 👌
Engine noise between normal and sport is different to me.

Pops and crackles can be heard above low volume music.

Im still laughing like a child with them!
