does it do it mmoreso on overrun when comin up too a junction as i find mine does this and its nothin to wory about imo.

 

nah mate - i live on a street wi speed bumps, i slow down for the bump, then slowly pull away an it makes the noise - i know the whine your talking about thought, sometimes it sounds normal, then other times it can get loud as if its travelling through the chassis.

 

Mine whines in 2nd gear, 90% of the time I notice it is when decelerating in this gear. Almost sounds like a straight cut gear kinda sound... like those found in a Sequential Gearbox. I just put it down to the fact 2nd gear gets more use/abuse...

 

When you next hear the noise quickly knock it out of gear... Does the noise continue or stop abruptly?

 

Only in the gear mate, its not a wheel bearing or anything like that. Its a weird noise to describe and it doesnt do it all the time!

 

Seems strange... If it had happened in all gears I would have definitely said Diff Bearings.

 

If the noise is worrying you and there is still warranty left on the car just take it to a dealer as it won't cost you anything

mines does that as well...what youl find is that if u sit stationary in the car, and move the steering from left to right or right to left it will make a noise too...its the power steering pump. mine is going into ford to get fixed on wed. its an 08 plate with about 10K on the clock

 

I think mine does this only sometimes though and it has never caused me any problems.

If you sit stationary and rev the car freely I here it now and then, also in first and second gear.

Its kind of like a slight whistle, is this what yours is doing

its booked into get looked at but my mate is a ford mechanic and he reacons its what it will be as he says that the power steering pumps on ST's are shockin. just need to wait n see
