Well my 15 plate fuel filler cap decided do dismantle itself when I filled up last week. The flap wouldnt open fully so the nossle wouldn't fit the the sprint fell off along with a few other bits ... opens fully now it just doesn't close now either

Tried the method Rich suggested yesterday by pulling it out about 20mm on a brand spanking new pump and I had no issues.

Having it all the way it kept knocking off the trigger.

So far problem solved for me! :)

Hi There,

Just joined the forum today and was wondering if anyone can advise me on the easy fuel system that's fitted to the Fiesta ST2 (2014) model.

I'm not sure what its supposed to look like at the top of the filling pipe but think there might be a bit missing. There is also a plastic bit with rubber seal around the edge floating about at the top of the filling pipe which is too big to remove from the pipe and has to be moved to the side just to get the petrol pump in.

Have uploaded pictures of the problem.

Any advise is much appreciated.

Thanks

Craig

Thanks for the reply Eomar,

Was wondering if the problem would be covered under warranty as only had the car for about 8 weeks now (second owner) and is still under warranty ?

The reason I ask this is because I have no experience dealing with garages/warranties before and feel that they might fob me off with wear and tear !

Only other thing that i've noticed is when comparing a photo of my ST filling pipe to the one posted by (MarksST) on the first page appears different. Not sure if the design has changed during development from the ST1 to the ST3 but there appears to be something missing on mine.., as well as the broken bit floating in the pipe ??

Any thoughts welcome ?

Absolutely this should be a warrantied item. ITs not a wear part, and not user serviceable so they cant have you for that. They might argue that its user inflicted damage but i reckon you'd have a case that if the "easy fuel" system can be damaged by someone putting a fuel nozzle into it, then its not fit for purpose...

as far as bits missing, there's a catch and flap assy, but it looks to me like the whole lot has pushed in to the filler. Potentially there's a comfae bit still kicking about somewhere so I'd be asking ford to scope the tank unless they can demonstrate they've recovered or accounted for all the parts.

bear in mind that if they were being really pedantic a vehicle inspection could nail you under construction and use regs... driving with an unsealed tank is no bueno.

it seems you're not a million miles from @StoneacreYork, so perhaps give them a buzz if your own dealer gives you any crap, you're more likely to get an honest and educated answer from them than many others.

Going to phone tomorrow and book the car in for inspection hopefully under warranty.

Was looking at the fuel pipe again today and just wondering if the Easy Fuel system on my ST is the stock version fitted when the car was new (or possibly been in an accident with previous owner and repaired using another Easy Fuel system ?) as looking at the top of the fuel pipe, it appears to be different when comparing it to pictures of the Fiesta Easy Fuel system on the internet.

If this was the case then would that make the warranty void ?

it does look different, but that might be down to ford making minor tweaks, or simply using alternate/equivalent parts.

If it's been replaced following a previous failure or accident then in theory, so long as correct ford parts were used, warranty should still be intact.

pretty much its down to how much of a pain in the arse the dealer is going to be, it shouldnt be a problem for them, they get paid for the work after all.

Ye mark,

Was looking at this on the internet and the bottom picture from your post looks like the system I've got with the flap opening up when inserting the petrol nozzle..,few ! choosing my words carefully here as don't want the post to be sent for censoring ! hehe.

The flap looks as though it has broken away from what I can describe is a small hinge type piece of plastic that can be moved backwards and forwards and appears to be attached to the top rim of the fuel pipe.

Not sure if anything else has broken off as previously suggested but will bare this in mind when dropping off at garage.

Have booked the car in for Monday morning so will update how I get on with that

I get this all the time at the Tesco pumps. I only ever fill up there as it's the only place to get 99 local.

Needed to brim it yesterday from less than 1/4 and it just constantly clicked off no matter how many times I replaced the nozzle, angled it, twisted it. I just had to guess when it was full as I couldn't tell if it was clicking off because easy fuel is **** or because the tank was full!

Update from garage today,

It appears Eomar is correct in that this should be a warrantied issue as previously described. The services department at garage have confirmed that they will do this under warranty but have to order the parts in.

Just need to book the car into garage when parts arrive and should be good to go, will post picture of newly fitted Easy Fuel system for anyone else having same issue, for reference.

Will also update if filling up with repaired Easy Fuel system is any EASIER than the Easy Fuel system before, lol.
