Quite a random one but....

While sitting in traffic yesterday with the sunlight on the rev counter it highlighted all the symbols on that side and I noticed there was one that is the ST logo does anyone know what this is for??

And I'll bet that if you haven't seen it before you'll be looking for it now 🤣🤣

Thanks for any info

I was aware of the existence of this is light but it perhaps shows what a Mrs Miggins I am that on a jaunt down to Torquay last week when it went off my first split second thought seeing it in the corner of my eyeline was "****, what's gone wrong" 🤣

I'm not really that soft on the car so i'm sure its gone off before I've just never noticed it. And therein lies the pointlessness of such a gimmick.

If you're rapidly accelerating up to speed on a public road, you should be looking where you're going not at the dashboard.

But if you are paying such insufficient attention to the road in front of you (and require a visual prompt to tell you what your ears and experience should be telling you) then there's this big dial with a red section at the end if it to give you that information.

The light calls to mind Baldrick and Blackadder when they go 'over the top' to spy on the German lines...

"Their firing at us Sir"...

..."Thank you Baldrick, be sure to tell me if I get shot" 🙄

I thought the whole idea of a shift indicator was so that you DO keep your eyes on the road - I big light that is visible in your peripheral vision so that you get notification to change before you hit the limiter. No need to look down at the rev counter.
Not required on the road because you shouldn't be driving like that, but of use on track. Genuine track cars used to have a really big light so you couldn't miss it.

Genuine track/race cars also have drivers with a helmet, headset for comms and straight cut gears hiding and drowing out the revs of the engine...

It's just a gimmick for a road car, especially on the ST as it's a tiny little light buried in the instrument cluster.

I've got a 2015 ST3, I've never driven one of these with the performance pack but I'm sure I read, after many had said how pointless it was, that when the indicator lit you could upshift without releasing the throttle thus giving you less time without drive. Obviously I may be wrong/misread/dreaming but it did make sense at the time, rat-o-van still makes I laugh.

I have it on mine and I've noticed it light up a few times, but as @Keithsson mentioned, I tend to be looking where I'm going, listening to the engine and judging how the car feels for shifting gear/feathering throttle/etc.

The light itself is too small and too low down to be noticed. More of a distraction if anything, as it looks like a warning light more than anything when it actually catches your eye! 😆

Is that when you're in track mode? If so then that'll be it, I've noticed it in track mode before, but as most people when I'm driving normally I don't see the ST shift light, only the gear up/down arrow to be most economical. I tend not to be looking at the dash for long lengths of time.
