just thought id share this iv got the new performance ford mag and it looks like mountune will be doing a 2.5 litre duratec conversion

what they have said about it

everyone loves a 2.0-litre zetec or duratec engine conversion, even more so if it's got a turbo or some throttle bodies attached to it , and with that in mind we can only assume that this new 2.5-litre crate engine from mountune will be getting many people's pulses racing.

based on a 2.5-litre unit that comes as standard in some base model us-spec fords rarther than a stroked 2.0-litre engine, mountune has developed a range of entry-level to full-race options that could be retro-fitted into the front of a MK6 FIESTA ST

or focus with relative ease.

the clubman spec features uprated rods, pistons, camshafts, mountunes own throttle body setup and produces a relatively relaxed 230bhp.other specifications are available from this set-up to a de-stroked full race engine equipped with a steel crank and rods, forged pistons, mountune dry sump, throttle bodies and cams that is rated in excess of 300bhp

the new mountune 48mm throttle body setup is a direct bolt on addition that can be used only with this 2.5-litre duratec. it's supplied with a twin-cast bodies, linkage, billet anodized fuel rail with single end blank, trumpets and a pipercross style back plate . it can be used in a return or return-less setup ad most injecters and TPS setups can be accommodated

prices have yet to be announced , but we reckon that one of these in the front of a mk6 st would be seriously good fun and that's before anyone figures out how to bolt on a turbo or supercharger

hmmmmmm this sounds very good im guessing you will be needing seriously deep pockets

what do you guys think

Only issue with this is that they make it into a track only engine and one that pretty much will be utterly useless in a road going car.

i have seen a 340BHP 2.5 duratec with a mere 224lb-torque

fantastic round a track because you can hold corners at high speed and get the desired mph and balance of torque.

but transfer that onto the road it will be utterly grunt less between 3000-5000rpm

why i chose the cosworth specification as around 3000-5000rpm you have 230-250lb-torque to play with.

Comparing to race 2.5 engine i see there is a huge difference in torques, which can either give you a better pull away on a straight or better from a corner.

I would say around the 6.5k mark. John Reid charges around 8k for a custom built 2.0 duratec if I remember. My dads just ordered a brand new 2.0 pinto for his MK1 escort, to be built over the next month. estimated power 210+ bhp (from a naturally aspirated historic spec engine) lol . Jealous is an understatement.
