Been using millers motorsport NT+ 5w40 for a few years on my fiesta track car

no issues

 

FJRS used 5w30 when it was serviced last week. I couldn’t tell you the brand though

There doesn't seem to be a definitive on this. 5w/20 vs 5w/30. Ford (owned) main dealer always puts 5/20 in mine.

 

The definitive is 5w 30, this was updated some years ago for the ST but this didn't seem to get passed on properly to the garages. My garage would also use 5w 20 unless I specified.
There is a thread somewhere with a member who works/worked on Ford production line, confirmed 5w 30 from first fill.

Used 5w 30 for the last 4 years of ownership, ran perfectly on and off track during that time and still going strong (on track) with new owner.

 

Always used 5w20. Gets 2 oil changed a year. 30k in my ownership and so far so no issues.

 

I’d go 5-30, put 5-20 in on my last oil change and defo made a difference on noise, got 5-30 ready for my next change 👍🏻

A bloke on here used to work at the engine plant where these engine were build, he confirmed Ford changed the oil from 5w20 to 5w30 because of NVH issues, read the thread from this post:

Has it caused you any issues, getting my car serviced and they are using 5w40 as they say the 5w20 ford reccomend is just too thin if you drive it spiritly or its tuned. Just wondering if it quietens the engine down or causes any other issues. Cheers.

I used Castrol 5w20 E for a few years, after reading Layer Cakes post I then changed over to Castrol Magnatec Professional A5 5w30, tried Shell Helix 5w30 AF which made the engine sound a tad noisier so that only lasted a few days. I'm now on Millers XF Premium LSPI 5w30, apparently Low Speed Pre Ignition (LSPI) is a thing with these engine so I'll be keeping with this for foreseeable, not sure if it's placebo but engine does seem quietest it's been since going on the LSPI stuff.

Have you got a link for the miller's oil? The 1 I'm looking it doesn't seem to meet the requirements.

 

Always stuck with Castrol 5/30 myself, anything else made it sound very tappy.

 

The Ford handbook states 5w20 and 5w30 as an alternative.
So both are actually correct according to Ford.
