Yeah I saw the clutch out the cp4 car on Saturday at collins. Has AP stamped on it. There is a pic on the collins fb page buried somewhere.

I don't believe for one second the standard clutch can handle 400bhp. There's a reason why Collins cp4 is limited to 280ftlb. Also saw someone saying thier clutch was slipping around this figure too so replaced it.

 

Apparently in the states they run 400bhp+ with no problems. I'm sure youll get a duff clutch from time to time. Bhp isn't what kills the clutch as you say torque is. I didn't want to go racing clutch as I want the car to be driveable on the roads. If AP make the standard Clutch (as it seems they do) I'm then that's interesting.

Jay at Finsport will be doing the work and is a knowledgeable guy so I'll see what's what.

 

It's not bhp that causes clutch slip it's torque.

 

I have just had mines mapped and am sitting at 251 torqer and my clutch is slipping, but it seem fine now hopefully

 

My clutch is slipping at full throttle under 3k rpm 300Ibsft of torque. Waiting on ttv making me a clutch as the one advertised for this car does not actually fit the bellhousing.

The pumaspeed item is cheap for a reason. They had a hand in it, I want nothing to do with that.

 

My MR230 puts out 260 torques, has done 52k miles now, and the standard OEM clutch gives not one hint of slip.

So true, I've had performance ones fail on my before inside 9 months

Look after it and it will last, abuse it and you best have deep pockets

 

CP4 280lbft, 32k miles, quite hard driving and no slip so far

 

Mine pulled 320 before it started slipping then pulled back to 300, maybe 300 is the limit or there abouts

 

It must have been the heat after the map then maybe that's why it was slipping

 

Done the clutch on mine after the slave decided to drop a seal which in turn contaminated the clutch.

The standard clutch is an AP item and stood up well IMO. 30k miles, 20 of which the car was 234bhp, 286ft lbs.The original clutch plate hardly looked worn compared to the new oem one. However there was severe play in the splined hub on the clutch plate. The flywheel also had major play, way past tolerances. All items had to be replaced.

Another point to note is the slave cylinder and master cylinder Ford use is poo. Bought a new unit direct from ford which turned out to be faulty. The gearbox ended up being took off the car three times in total.
