There is as reset procedure in the manual

1. Lift and hold the switch until the window is fully closed.

2. Release the switch.
3. Lift the switch again for one more second.
4. Push and hold the switch until the window is fully open.
5. Release the switch.
6. Lift and hold the switch until the window is fully closed.
7. Open the window and try to close it automatically.
8. Reset and repeat procedure if the window does not close automatically.

Well - Honestly, no. I don't buy a car expecting it windows to refuse to shut.

If this sort of fault is known to Ford, don't you expect them to fix the issue rather than just print a solution in the manual...?

 

Hi mate, it sounds like the window safety "obstruction detection" sensor kicking in.
If I have my passenger window open more than half an hour and try to close it, it goes up hits the top and drops thinking its detected an obstruction.

Carried out reset numerous times but keeps reverting to it every few days, drives me nuts.

How bizarre. Perhaps the sensor is dirty. Only happened twice - will leave it a few weeks and see if it occurs again.

Many other marques have the same scenario, it is not just Ford. I am sure they will all argue that is it all for your safety

 

Just very strange that for me its always the passenger side and only after being open for a fair while.

As the glass hits the top it really seems to "bend" or hit hard on the passenger side compared to driver side.

Fair point Rich. Only had the car a couple of months - would be surprised if it's dirty already but I suppose it's a possibility.

 

Basically the motor has a position sensor, the sensor counts the number of rotations between the top and bottom stop points.
Which is what you do when you carry out the reset procedure, it recalibrates the motor positions.

If it hits an obstruction between the bottom and top stop positions, it triggers the obstruction detection by retracting partly, to release what it beleives is the obstruction.

As said mine quite often hits the top of the passenger door rubber very hard and as it is not at its stop it reacts as if its hit an obstruction.

I don't. Haven't had it happen again - haven't reset the window either.

Will give it some time.....

 

I've had this about 4 times in the past 8 months of ownership. Always the passenger window, and I have no wind deflectors fitted.

I knew about the reset function from day one, so a simple reset usually cures it for a month or so. Just one of those annoyances you have to get used to - I can't see Ford doing anything to cure it.

 

I've had this issue with my passenger window too but I put it down to my wind deflector and just keep resetting it when it does happen. Doesn't bother me too much. My passengers get annoyed by it thinking they're breaking my car and I sit there wetting myself.

 

No deflectors on this one either.

My vRS had deflectors and after initial bedding in were fine.

Not that big a deal but strange how we all seem to suffer on the passenger side only?
